The Academy of the Americas/Living Arts Detroit, Southwest Detroit, MI

Taught Video & Animation to 7th and 8th graders at The Academy of the Americas, a bilingual Detroit Public School in Southwest Detroit, MI.

Collaborated with teachers and artists to integrate Video and Animation into class curriculum. Designed and implemented projects and lesson plans involving personal narrative, documentary, and experimental animation techniques for use in middle school english, social studies and math classes.

Designed equipment packages. Introduced novice students to video and animation production and developed their skills to the point of self-sufficient production. Taught students to teach other students production techniques. Assemble and oversaw final editing and presentation of projects. Designed and produced project DVDs, providing each student with their own copy.

2010 – Burton Elementary, Huntington Woods, MI

Taught students in Ms. Klassen’s 5th Grade Social Studies class animation at Burton Elementary, Huntington Woods, MI.

Consulted on grant proposal. Assembled and setup equipment package. Developed project plans. Participated in class project production and critique. Taught students and instructors animation and non-linear editing techniques. Produced project DVDs.

George Crockett Academy, Detroit, MI

Taught video and animation production to two 4th grade classes. Worked with teachers and additional artists outside video mediums to craft lessons and guide students. Students learned video production, stop-motion animation, cut out animation, writing, animation and pixillation. Produced DVD of work for each student.

Taught graduate students video and animation production. Multiple animation techniques including stop motion, cut-outs, flipbooks, pixillation and additive. Maintained classroom lab of iMacs. Instructed students in Final Cut Express editing and DVD production. Produced compilation DVD each semester.

DAFT’s Student Animation Workshop

Instructed high school students in hand-made animation techniques, producing 5 short projects involving stop motion, cut outs, cell, and pixillation animation methods. Produced and animated compilation DVDs and prepared web delivery.

Fall 2008 – 555 Gallery, Detroit, MI

Taught 4th and 5th graders video & animation production. Created animation project concepts. Directed students in small group production. Produced compilation DVD.
